DIP — Immersive Interface
Creator & Developer

DIP is a prototype immersive interface that uses light and water as its medium. A multi-sensory environment that utilises the physical properties of water — its mass, temperature, buoyancy, and the kinaesthetic enclosure of fluid around the body — to immerse the user both physically and cognitively in an interactive 3D space.
Concept
The installation places the user inside a water tank, using projected light and responsive sensors to create a spatial interface. Interaction happens through body movement, with the water acting simultaneously as display medium and haptic feedback system.
The project draws a reference to Alice entering the Looking Glass — the moment of crossing a threshold between the familiar and an entirely other world.
Construction
Built using custom electronics, projected light, and purpose-built water containment. The system tracks user position and gesture to drive real-time visual response, creating a feedback loop between body and light.
