Robotic Fabrication

Designer & Fabricator

A bespoke shading mashrabiya — a traditional Arabic lattice screen — designed algorithmically and constructed by a robotic arm placing ceramic elements one by one.

Concept

The form responds to solar angles and desired shading patterns, generating a non-repeating tile layout unique to the specific window and orientation. No two tiles are placed identically.

Fabrication

A KUKA robotic arm was programmed using a custom Grasshopper-to-robot pipeline to place each element with millimetre precision — a process impractical by hand at this level of geometric variation.
